The Connect Boards Column

The Connect Boards Column enables you to establish a connection between a column and items from another board or multiple boards effortlessly. This column proves helpful when you have interdependent boards in your workflow, as it allows for a seamless exchange of information between different boards.
For instance, you can link your board that lists client names with their orders on a separate board. This way, you won’t have to search for the relevant order associated with a client, as the data will be readily available. The potential uses of this column are vast. To understand how it operates, read on.
How to add it
To include the Connect Boards Column, select the + symbol on the upper right-hand corner of your board. Afterward, choose “Connect boards” from the ensuing dropdown menu.
How it works
Step 1
Right after you insert the Connect Boards Column onto your board, a window will appear, asking you to pick the board(s) you wish to connect to:
Step 2
Click the “Select boards” button in blue and select a board (or more than one!) you want to connect with. In our instance, we’re using the current board to obtain an overview from various project boards, so we want to link the “Project A,” “Project B,” and “Project C” boards to our “Project Overview Board.”
Step 3
Once we have chosen our three project boards, we can generate a Connect Boards Column on the connected boards to enable a two-way connection (linkage in both directions).
The illustration below displays how the “Project A” board is also linked to the “Project Overview Board” as well.
If you opt for this alternative, the item links you generate on the connected board (which we’ll cover in Step 4!) will also be automatically displayed here. You won’t have to keep switching between boards to confirm they’re synchronized manually! Alterations made on one board will also be reflected on the connected board.
Step 4
We have now linked our “Project Overview Board” to our three project boards! Now, we need to link particular items from the connected boards to the items on our “Project Overview Board.”
To accomplish this, you can click any cell within the Connect Boards Column, and it will display the items from the connected boards for you to select from. You can choose one or more items to be linked in each of your Connect Board Column cells!
In our example, if you have several boards linked via the Connect Boards Column, you can choose a particular board and link its items.
Furthermore, if desired, it is simple to combine and link items from all the connected boards into a single one.
Furthermore, if desired, it is simple to combine and link items from all the connected boards into a single one.
We will display the names of associated activities from the connected boards next to each project. In case of multiple linked items, the column will indicate the number of additional related items, and you can hover over the number to view the names of the linked items, as shown in the screenshot below.

Regarding the pop-up display
After linking items between connected boards, you can view details of the linked items from your current board. To achieve this, select a cell in the Connect Boards Column, hover over the connected item’s right side, and select “Open Item.”
Selecting “Open item” will display a pop-up card view of the linked item, allowing you to view and modify all pertinent details of that item conveniently. This is particularly advantageous in our situation, as it enables us to make alterations to specific project details directly from our overview board. Any modifications made to the linked item here will also be updated in the board from which it originated.
Customization
Through the Connect Boards Column settings, you can customize which boards are connected as well as choosing to enable or disable the option to link to multiple items!
To remove a board link or establish a new one, click on the right arrow beside the Connect Boards Column heading and select the column settings. To remove a connected board, click the “Disconnect” button beside its name, or press the blue “+Connect more boards” button to include a new one.
In the settings menu, you can also deactivate the capability to link to multiple items if you desire. By deactivating this function, you can only link one item to each cell in the Connect Boards Column. As a result, when you select the linked item, you can directly access the pop-up card view without clicking “Open item,” as previously stated.
Alternatively, You can connect as many items as you desire in each cell of the Connect Boards Column by leaving the link to multiple items enabled.
